These rows are part of the recruitment calendar. Every date and every eligibility line was read from the employer’s own page; how this calendar is made explains the method.

Spring weeks are for first-years

A spring week is a short insight programme, most often at a bank, for students near the start of their degree. Lancaster University Management School’s careers team says they generally take place in the Easter break of your first year.

So applications fall in September and October of that same year, often within weeks of arriving at university. Lancaster puts the rule on who may apply plainly:

Only first-year students can apply unless you are on a four-year course, where second-years can also apply.
Lancaster University Management School Careers

If you are on a three-year course and already in your second year, the spring week has passed you by; go straight to the summer internships.

More on applying in your first weeksLess on applying in your first weeks

Some programmes open even earlier, in July and August. That timing is hard on anyone new to the UK: you will be applying in your first weeks, before your first exams.

Mark the closing dates before term gets busy. A careful application in October still beats a polished one sent after the programme has filled.

Eligibility is in each employer's own words

Each row quotes the employer’s sentence on who may apply, exactly as published, because the details differ: year of study, graduation year, or both.

Piper Sandler’s London spring week, opening at midday on 1 December 2026 for a programme in April 2027, names all three in one line.

Applicants should be either in the first year of a three-year degree or the second year of a four-year degree, graduating in 2029.

More on when the line does not fit youLess on when the line does not fit you

That opening date is later than many. Read the line before you write a word. If your course is longer or shorter than the employer assumes, or you changed course, check which part of the line describes you.

Where it is unclear, ask the employer’s graduate recruitment team before you apply. A short, polite question by email is normal, and the answer is worth more than a guess.

A spring week can lead to an internship

A spring week is the first step on a path, not a job offer. Piper Sandler says those who succeed on its spring week may receive an offer to be fast-tracked for a 2028 summer internship.

The internship, in turn, is where many banks look for graduates, so each step opens the next.

Year at university What you apply for An employer’s own example
First year (three-year degree) Spring week Piper Sandler: spring week in April 2027, applications from 1 December 2026
Penultimate year Summer internship Barclays: summer 2027 internships for students graduating in 2028
Final year Graduate programme Barclays: summer interns are considered for its 2028 graduate programme

LSE’s Department of Finance describes internships at most investment banks as paid positions that in many cases lead to an offer of a full-time role. The internship calendar lists the summer programmes with their dates.

The windows in these rows are the same for every applicant. As an international first-year, your clock is everyone’s: September and October.

They generally take place during the Easter break in your first spring term.

Two things are yours to check.

Check What to know
Term dates Spring weeks usually fall in the Easter break, but a programme may run in term. A Student visa at degree level limits work in term time to 20 hours a week. Ask your university’s international student advice team whether that limit applies to a programme
The next step Questions about working in the UK after graduation come at the internship stage

For the next step, the investment banking guide follows the whole path from spring week to offer, and the graduate scheme calendar has the visa clock for when you reach the end of it.
